An alumna of the prestigious Officer's Training Academy, Chennai, Capt Yamini Varadaraj-Chowdhury (Retd) is a second-generation retired Army officer, author, editor, national masters' swimming champion, mother and Army wife — not particularly in that order!

Over the course of her 19-year literary career, her writing has been prominently featured across a range of websites, newspapers, and magazines. As the former Executive Editor at Rupa Publications, she has had the privilege of working with authors including former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Vice President M. Hamid Ansari, Dr S. Jaishankar, General Manoj Naravane (Retd), Amitabh Kant, Subramanian Swamy, Salman Khurshid, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Rajiv Kumar, Rajdeep Sardesai, and a host of others. In recognition of her contribution to publishing and literature, she received the Literary Trailblazer Award at the Festival of Womanhood Awards 2025, conferred by Mohanji International (Switzerland).

Her first book, Modi and the World: The Ring View Inside Out (https://tinyurl.com/2k2xxzkv), was published by Bloomsbury in 2016 and launched at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington D.C. She has participated in several literature festivals, hosting two sessions at the Bangalore Literature Festival in 2023, and served as a panellist at the AWWA Literature Festival Abhivyakti Season 4, Chandimandir, in 2024.

Her debut poem on cricket, If I Were the Fair & Lovely Fourth Umpire, won the top prize in a nationwide competition conducted by Hindustan Unilever Limited, and was featured on the nationally televised Fair & Lovely Fourth Umpire cricket programme (December 2004), hosted by Charu Sharma and featuring cricket legends Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Maninder Singh and Atul Wassan.

She is also a three-time national masters swimming champion, having won three gold medals for Delhi state in 2018, in addition to a host of medals at both state and national levels.
